16-year-old girl arrested after man is kidnapped and assaulted

ALEX – The complainant denied any knowledge about the stolen cellphone.

Police detectives are investigating a case of kidnapping, armed robbery and assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm that took place on December 7.

The victim, a 26-year-old man claimed he was at the corner of 18th Avenue and Selborne Street when a blue Hyundai stopped and three men entered the yard and proceeded to a house.

“A few minutes later, the men came out and approached the complainant. They asked him where the residents of the house were. They then took out a firearm and shot it twice in the air. The suspects pointed at the complainant and started assaulting him with the firearm while dragging him to the house. All the rooms were opened, they searched the rooms and took two cellphones and a watch,” said Alex Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha.

Mbatha said according to the complainant, he was then dragged and forcefully put inside the boot of the car. The suspects drove away and after a few minutes they stopped, opened the boot and one of them called his friends to come. When the friends arrived, they joined in on the assault and dragged the complainant out of the boot. They then tied both his hands to a fence and demanded that he give them a cellphone that they claimed he stole.

The complainant is said to have denied any knowledge about the stolen cellphone. He was then forced back into the boot of the car and driven away before the suspects stopped at an unknown place and locked him inside a container.

“The following day at about 12pm, one of the guys opened the container, dragged him outside and started assaulting him again. He was also hit with a firearm. The complainant then noticed a girl with blue hair [16-year-old] who was present and asked her for water. One of the guys then asked her to go buy a kota which was then given to the complainant to eat. After eating he was taken back into the container and locked inside.

“Later that night, the friends came back and continued assaulting the complainant. They searched him and took R1 500 and a cellphone he had on him. He was forcefully put inside the boot of the car once again and they drove to an unknown place. The complainant said they forcefully put another guy in the boot and took them back to the container.

“The next day, the complaint said a lady communicated to the men [suspects] that she heard police sirens. This is when the men decided to move the victims. They were once again put in the boot. While they were driving, the complainant heard police sirens and the car immediately stopped. The boot was suddenly opened and it was police officers. The suspects were arrested. The complainant then noticed the very same lady with blue hair [16-year-old] passing by and he pointed her out to the police officers. She was later arrested.”

The complainant and the second victim sustained injuries due to being assaulted.
