Alex residents urged to come and share experiences

ALEXANDRA – People with disabilities, LGBTQIAP+ communities and the youth will be given a platform to ventilate their trials and tribulations.

Alexandrians living with disabilities and the LGBTQIAP+ community have been urged to attend a two-day conference in Sandton for an opportunity to discuss their issues in society.

The conference was held at Radisson Blu Hotel on the corner of Rivonia Road and Daisy Street on November 25 and 26. It was hosted by the multi-award-winning company, Modern Centric which is a division of Modern Centric Holdings (Pty) Ltd and is a consultancy firm based in Rosebank in partnership with its Modern Community Foundation.

Zakhele Mgobhozi, the founder and group managing director of Modern Centric Holdings, said the company advocated for inclusivity and believed that disability was part of normal human experience, and its solutions were guided by this principle in the world of work.

He added that the conference was aimed to host 150 beneficiaries with more than 30 speakers, international and local, who were all experts in their field.

Speaking in an interview with Alex News, Mgobhozi said the company’s track record spoke for itself, having won numerous awards since its formation in 2013. The company has won the Black Business Quarterly Award and the Young Business Achiever Award 2020.

“The conference aims to create awareness around issues pertaining to disadvantaged youth, people with disabilities and the LGBTQIAP+ community. We also run a corporate social investment programme that sponsors the categories mentioned above in internships, and have provided meals to the needy during Covid-19, including adopting two Daveyton families and providing them with a grocery stipend for a year,” Mgobhozi said.

“We will be greatly honoured to host people with disabilities, LGBTQIAP+ communities and the disadvantaged youth from Alexandra and give them a platform to ventilate their trials and tribulations in their community.”
