New body to champion water and sanitation issues in Alex

ALEXANDRA – The interim forum has also been tasked with establishing relations and engagements with other stakeholders in the City.

An interim body to champion community matters around conservation of water and sanitation has been established in Alexandra.

Known as the Alex Water and Sanitation Forum, the interim body was formed on September 30 and its first task would be to identify a venue to host Global Hand Washing Day on October 19.

The forum has also been tasked with establishing relationships with other stakeholders such as the City of Johannesburg and its utilities Pikitup, Joburg Water, and Community Development Workers.

The forum will also seek to consult with community entities and members to determine its terms of reference and the way forward. This would include tackling the thorny issue of sanitation in the township.

The forum is led by chairperson Janky Matlala and his deputy, Lebogang Nthane while the secretary is Thabo Mopasi and his deputy is Paul Mokoena. The treasurer is Mmatsatsi Mokena and his deputy is Flora Mahlaba.

The forum has been sanctioned by the National Department of Water and Sanitation and its Gauteng counterpart.
