Alex FM receives another donation of studio equipment

ALEXANDRA – The station suffered losses worth R5 million as a result of the riots in mid-July.

Christmas came early for Alex FM as they received another donation of 10 laptops from Siemens South Africa on September 9, to assist in the rebuilding of the station after it suffered a great deal at the hands of looters in mid-July.

The riot resulted in the station losing equipment worth R5 million. Since the looting occurred, the station has received support from the community and generous donors, such as the National Lottery Commission, which donated R2 million.

Takalane Nemangowe, station manager of Alex FM, expressed his gratitude to all the donors who contributed to the station. “We would like to thank our donors for their support after what happened to the station. We are saying this on behalf of everyone in Alexandra, as the voice of the community.

“These donations are now enabling us to better serve the community. This is such a great gesture, and we appreciate it and hope that it will not only benefit the people of Alexandra but also spread throughout the country, as we continue to address these socio-economic issues we face.”

The South African National Editors Forum also contributed studio equipment worth R20 000 to the station. Nemangowe said Siemens South Africa’s donation of laptop computers will be crucial for the station’s reporters, journalists, producers, and technical staff.

“The 10 laptops donated by Siemens are worth R70 000, and we continue to receive a lot of donations like this one,” Nemangowe added.

Moreover, Radio 702 gifted the studio a set of studio air computers valued at R70 000 on September 6.
