Pholosho Junior Secondary School learner allegedly stabs Alex High learner to death

ALEX – The deceased learner succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

A Grade 9 Learner of Alexandra High School has passed away after allegedly being stabbed by another learner of Pholosho Secondary School at about 19:00 on September 9.

Gauteng Education of Education, MEC Panyaza Lesufi said in a statement, “It is alleged that the deceased learner was stabbed by a Grade 7 learner from Pholosho Secondary School, also in Alexandra, and that the incident occurred in the township.

“Our psycho-social unit has been dispatched to Alexandra High School to provide necessary support and counselling to all those who are affected by this fatal incident, this process will also continue on Monday, September 13.

“What transpired is truly saddening and we would like to share our deepest condolences to the family and school community for this loss. We also denounce, in the strongest terms, all violent acts by our learners. The SGB [School Governing Body] must investigate and take necessary steps in dealing with such matters.”

According to Alexandra police station’s spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, the incident involved a 13-year-old girl who stabbed her boyfriend in the chest during an apparent fight. He was rushed to a local clinic but unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries upon arrival. It is not yet clear why they were fighting.

Mbatha added that the suspect would appear in the Alex Magistrates’ Court on September 13.
