Alex mother gets brand spanking kitchen

ALEXANDRA – Mkhumla says she does not have enough words to express her gratitude to her daughter and the mall.

A lucky Alex mother has had her kitchen transformed into a brand-spanking new lovable environment to churn out those hearty meals for her family.

Nomakhosi Mkhumla, a passionate cook and mother of three, was the winner of a kitchen makeover competition run by Alex Mall for Mother’s Day in May to the tune of R10 000 in conjunction with mall tenant VURSA, a furniture store which converted the kitchen and provided the appliances.

Entrants were asked to nominate a deserving mother to receive the magic makeover by entering the competition on the mall’s Facebook page and stating why they had entered their mother.

Mkhumla was nominated by her eldest daughter, Lettie Thusi, who described her as being a loving mother who raised ‘me and my siblings through hardship but never faltered in ensuring that we never went to bed hungry and also went to school on a full tummy’.

“She’s a mother of three and it’s sad that all of us are still too young to do something huge and good for her.

“My mom loves cooking and I would really appreciate it if the Alex Mall crew can fix her kitchen so it could be comfortable for a mother to cook and just use it passionately,” said Thusi in her motivation.

After some logistical delays due to Covid-19, marketing and communication manager at Alex Mall, Ntokozo Bophela said she was delighted to have finally fulfilled the dreams of Mkhumla’s daughter by transforming her kitchen into this lovable space.

The mom also received some new small appliances to match her lavish kitchen. Mkhumla said she did not have enough words to express her gratitude to her daughter who had entered her which she was unaware of. “I was shocked when I got a call from the mall to say I had won, courtesy of my daughter.

“I will always love you girl… and all my children. Now I can cook those hearty meals in this magic kitchen,” she said.
