EzaseKasiJHB delivers goods with style

ALEXANDRA — They started a door-to-door delivery system based on the Uber model to serve Alex residents.

Themba Kubheka (42) and Simphiwe Libazi (38) are performing artists, musicians, facilitators and businessmen based in Alexandra who ‘love to embark on new careers’.

They recently started a door-to-door delivery service based on the Uber model to deliver goods to Alex residents purchased from any shops in Alex. The difference is they deliver using bicycles.

The service is known as EzaseKasiJHB and they are also professional touring artists who have been representing Brand SA across South Africa for more than 20 years.

A highlight of their career in the entertainment industry has been working with Maverick Warehouse, a boutique production company owned by Janice Lurie, both as artists, suppliers, production staff, and creative directors.

They told Alex News that Covid-19 had prevented them and other artists from doing what they loved. “As Covid-19 and the global shutdowns have decimated livelihoods, the worst affected industries are the entertainment, events, production and hospitality industries,” said the duo.

“Artists are among the hardest working groups in the world, putting in hours of dedication in perfecting their craft. We love our work, we are our work. We want to work.

“We have developed our skills through what we have been practicing and delivering over the years. Many entertainers, including us, live from gig to gig as we are freelancers in the economy flowing with the ebb and flow of client needs and budget alignments.”

Their door-to-door delivery service was launched in April last year. Kubheka, Libazi, Lurie and Debra Mizrachi, also of Maverick Warehouse, put out a call for donations to raise money to buy the bicycles.

With this idea, the duo has an opportunity to supplement their incomes while delivering groceries, medications, takeout and more to people who cannot move around during the lockdowns and beyond. Currently, they use six bicycles and two cars to deliver around Alexandra.

“We plan to have 20 to 25 bicycles on the road by the end of the year as well as two or three motorbikes so that we can serve the surrounding suburbs. “We are hungry for success and eager to work. Through EzaseKasiJHB, we hope to upskill ourselves and the artists we can assist.”
