Alex in the history books of ActionSA once again

ALEXANDRA – Party leader Mashaba could not attend the branch launch due to pressing matters in Hammanskraal.

Alexandra once again made history when ‘new kid on the political block’ ActionSA launched its first branch in Gauteng in the iconic township.

In May, the township’s Ward 105 made history by being the first to host ground-breaking candidate selection elections similar to the primary elections in the United States, where ordinary people got the opportunity to choose their preferred candidate to represent them in the upcoming local government elections.

Former DA PR councillor in the ward, Shadrack Mkhonto, who jumped ship in April and defected to ActionSA, the party formed by former Johannesburg executive mayor Herman Mashaba, was voted as the preferred candidate for Ward 105.

Mkhonto becomes the branch’s first chairperson and will serve along deputy chairperson Sello Manyapye. Norah Malebe is secretary and Valery Machaka is treasurer.

Present at the branch launch was former Chief of Metro police David Tembe who congratulated Mkhonto on his appointment.

Mashaba, who had been billed as the main speaker at the branch launch, was unavailable to attend due to some pressing community water issues that he champions in Hammanskraal, his birthplace.
