Legacy Pride continues with Mandela Day food distribution

ALEXANDRA – Legacy Pride and Nutriwell Aims to feed 10 million children by 2022.

Legacy Pride, a registered NPO and Legacy Group initiative, delivered more than 19 000 Nutriwell meals to underprivileged children and elderly residents of Alexandra, Soweto, and Laudium.

The deliveries were part of a Mandela Day food drive that Legacy Pride had to postponed due to the recent unrest affecting parts of South Africa.

Members of the group distributed meals to beneficiaries across Gauteng including Alexandra Child Care and Support Centre, Itlhokomeleng Association for the care of the aged and disabled, Rays of Hope, Ikageng, Teddy Bear Clinic, and New Beginningz.

Robert Hodson, COO of Legacy Hotels & Resorts said, “Covid-19 and the subsequent Level 4 lockdown made it hard for many South Africans to get involved and perform their 67 minutes this Mandela Day. Our call for donations provided people with an option to still make a real impact.

“Thank you to everyone who donated. If we could all start by feeding just a few people, then together we could feed a nation.”

Apart from Mandela Day, Legacy Pride and Nutriwell have also entered into an ongoing partnership whose goal is to feed 10 million children by 2022.

As little as R10 can be donated towards Legacy Pride by guests staying at any Legacy Hotels & Resorts, as well as anyone looking to support a charity on an ongoing basis.

The funds raised will be invested back into the local communities in which Legacy operates, through the purchase of Nutriwell’s range of nutritional, fortified powdered food products.

Legacy Pride has so far raised more than R1 million in donations and delivered more than 500 000 meals to the less fortunate since April 2020.

Rays of Hope orphaned and vulnerable children’s programme manager Bertha Maringi said the donations would benefit the underprivileged children of Alexandra.
