ActionSA has announced its candidates for the local government elections

ALEXANDRA – Wards winners will be in charge of planning activities and leading their branch as branch campaign managers.

ActionSA held its candidate elections on June 26, and Herman Mashaba‘s party has announced which potential ward candidates will represent the party in the local government elections in October.

The candidate elections are similar to the USA’s primaries where voters choose their preferred candidates to run in the general elections, as opposed to a system where voters choose a party and the candidate is then imposed upon them.
For Johannesburg’s Region E, the elections were conducted at East Bank Hall in Alexandra and the results were announced on July 9.

As one of the candidates running for Ward 105, Shadrack Mkhonto, a former DA PR councillor, was voted in ahead of Sello Manyapye and Lungelwa Mali.

Mkhonto and other ward winners will assume the role of branch campaign managers. He said he would give Manyapye and Mali meaningful responsibilities in the branch in an effort to form a cohesive team.

Residents who changed wards prior to the candidate elections were not eligible to vote, and they would have to re-register with the IEC on July 17 and 18.

“We are using the current time to prepare for our registration weekend operations which will involve party agents monitoring registrations inside the voting booth and transporting ActionSA supporters who are unregistered,” Mkhonto said.

“As soon as lockdown restrictions have been lifted, registration, flyers, and placards will be made available to support blitzes at traffic intersections and other strategically important locations.”
