Metro police recover hijacked vehicle and illegal firearm in Alex

ALEXANDRA – The 28-year-old suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate Court soon.


Metro police Freeway Unmarked Unit officers received a lookout via radio for a Toyota Hilux bakkie that was hijacked in Norkem Park, Kempton Park.

Officers spotted and tactically approached the vehicle that was travelling along 3rd Avenue and Roosevelt Road in Alexandra on 29 June.

“One suspect, aged 28, was apprehended and an unlicensed firearm was seized,” said Metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla.

“He was detained at Alexandra Police Station and charged with possession of a hijacked vehicle and an unlicensed firearm. The vehicle was booked in at the SAPS Aeroton pound.” The suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court soon.
