Suspect sentenced to 18 years direct imprisonment for business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

ALEX – Alexandra Police Station's spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha said, "One of the suspects also robbed the owner R6000 in cash."

The suspects who were involved in a business robbery and the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition were sentenced to 18 years direct imprisonment on 3 June in the Alexandra Regional Court.

It was reported that on 25 March 2021, four suspects who were unknown at the time, entered a shop at number 44 1st Street in Wynberg pretending to be customers. One of the suspects pointed a firearm at the owner of the shop while another pointed his gun at the security guard. The other two started to search customers robbing them of their belongings.

Alexandra Police Station’s spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha said, “One of the suspects also robbed the owner of R6 000 in cash.”

Mbatha added that one of the victims told the police that when this was occurring, community members noticed what was happening and immediately came to the complainant’s rescue. “They apprehended one of the suspects, contacted the police and the suspect was later identified as 32-year-old Kekana Vuyiswa.”
