Alex Men’s Forum donates to Bombani Shelter for abused women and children

ALEXANDRA – The forum encourages victims to deal with the matter, not the people

Alex Men’s Forum in partnership with Rotary Community Corps of Alexandra donated 18 bedsheets and toys to Bombani Shelter for Abused Women and Children.

The donation took part on 10 June at the shelter in Alexandra. Lebogang Seboni of the forum and a committee member of Rotary Community Corps said, “We chose Bombani shelter because it links with what we are doing. When the SAPS receives a situation whereby a woman is being abused by her spouse and she has nowhere to stay, the SAPS link up with the shelter to assist her which is also something we do here at Men’s Forum.

“Whatever donation we get, our first consideration is Bombani because we are more focused on gender-based violence and the shelter accommodates abused women and children.”

Charles Mphephu, chairperson of Men’s Forum said the gender-based violence stats have increased since the introduction of lockdown which was why they have been all over Alexandra making donations to those who have been affected.

“We started getting more reports on gender-based violence last year during the hard lockdown and ever since then we have been on our toes giving counselling and solutions to the victims so that they can start with their healing process,” Mpephu added.

Speaking to Alex News, Mpephu said at Men’s Forum they encouraged victims to deal with the matter, not the person.

The next mission for Mpephu and his troops was to donate jerseys to the homeless people in Alexandra.
