ActionSA to make political history in Alex

ALEXANDRA – ActionSA becomes the first party in SA to adopt the US style of primaries before the full election to allow communities to select and endorse their preferred candidates.

ActionSA is set to be the first political party in South Africa to allow residents of each ward to elect their preferred ward candidate in an internal primary election process that will be held towards the end of April .

Alexandra will be no different as veteran former PR councillor Shadrack Mkhonto, who recently defected to ActionSA from the DA, said he would stand for Ward 105 in the party’s primaries.

The ActionSA system will allow three aspiring candidates who are members of the party to contest, and members and residents of that particular ward will have an opportunity to elect their preferred ward candidate who will then contest that ward in IEC local government elections to be held in June.

“I am already one of those aspirant candidates who will ask voters and residents of Ward 105 to elect me on our internal candidate selection process that will be conducted by an outsider.

“As from 10 April, I start in full force with my team of activists going house to house talking to voters with a view to persuade them to select me as their preferred candidate to stand for the municipal elections in June as Ward 105 candidate for ActionSA,” Mkhonto told Alex News.

In the 2011 election, Mkhonto stood under the Democratic Alliance ticket in the ward but lost to former ANC councillor Joyce Ngwenya. In 2016, he was again beaten by incumbent ANC councillor Tefo Raphadu.

“I hope to make Alex history with ActionSA by becoming the first person to be elected in primaries to become the ward candidate to stand in the full-blown elections in June.”
