Suspects make off with R65 290 following Fidelity robbery in Alex

ALEX – The complainant threw the money on the ground and tried to use his firearm to defend himself but a second male overpowered him and took the complainant's gun, threatening to shoot him

Police detectives are investigating a robbery that took place in Alexandra on 8 March.

A Fidelity security guard was confronted by an unknown man who ordered the complainant to hand over a bag filled with money. The incident happened at about 1.40pm.

Alexandra spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha said, “The complainant said that he was leaving the mall headed for the van to put the money inside when an unknown male instructed him to hand over the bag.

“The complainant threw the money on the ground and tried to use his firearm to defend himself but a second male overpowered him and took the complainant’s gun, threatening to shoot him.”

Mbatha said the security guard went down on his knees and the suspects fled the scene in a silver Toyota Quest. The vehicle’s registration number is unknown.

No injuries were reported but two Glock pistols were stolen from the guards.

Mbatha added that a docket was opened for further investigation.
