Alex NPO struggled to make ends meet during Covid-19

ALEXANDRA -– Ingrid Maredi notes that figures of destitute people sky-rocketed under Covid-19 while donations tumbled down.

The outbreak of Covid-19 has caused untold misery to the lives of vulnerable members of communities, including institutions of support that found it hard to cope with the rising numbers of destitute people.

These were the words of Ratang Bana Future for Children founder and manager, Ingrid Maredi when she acknowledged donations made to her children’s charity by Reddam House Waterfall College in Midrand on 11 February.

Reddam House Waterfall College principal, Quinton Pasco and his entourage of courtiers descended on Ratang Bana in Alexandra bearing gifts that will help enhance the protection and upbringing of children at the home.

Speaking to Alex News, Maredi said the school had donated chairs, tables, stationery, a 55-inch Plasma TV, and clothes.

In addition these items, Maredi said the school also made a monetary donation in the form of vouchers to enable her NPO to buy essential items needed in the home to support the children.

“I am so grateful to the school for the donations which will go a long way towards making the lives of the little ones more bearable. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus disease early last year, NPOs such as Ratang Bana have experienced hardships as beneficiary figures doubled while the donations took a downward slide.

“We struggled to make ends meet at the height of the pandemic last year as we could not cope with the rising numbers of destitute people. “Donations such as this make a huge difference in the lives of the helpless children that we nurture and care for in this home.

“I call on other parties to follow the lead and footsteps of Reddam House which could afford to extend a giving hand under these trying times of Covid-19,” Maredi said.
