Police officers of Rapid Response Unit and the Johannesburg Flying Squad on 9 February intercepted suspects driving a white Audi A4 that had been reported as hijacked.
The two suspects allegedly started shooting at the police and a shootout ensued in Alexandra. One of the suspects was fatally wounded and killed during the shootout while the other suspect jumped out of the car and fled on foot.
“Police recovered an unlicensed firearm and a car reported to be hijacked in Rooihuiskraal, Pretoria hours before the incident,” said police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo.

“It is reported that a six-year-old girl was taken to a nearby hospital after she was reportedly knocked down by the speeding hijacked vehicle.”
A search for the suspect who escaped was underway.
