Avon renews its commitment to fight cancer

JOBURG – Avon Justine renews its commitment to the fight against breast cancer as it marked World Cancer Day.

Beauty and cosmetics company Avon Justine commemorated World Cancer Day on 4 February with a renewed vengeance to continue its support for the fight against breast cancer.

Reaffirming its commitment to continue to work closely with organisations that support breast cancer survivors, the company said it would continue to leverage some of its financial muscle to champion breast cancer awareness and education, particularly the importance of early detection which is said to improve the chances of successful treatment.

The company has supported non-governmental organisations such as Cancer Association of South Africa, Look Good…Feel Better, and Wings of Hope through the hosting of events such as the iThemba Walkathon which has become one of the biggest cancer awareness walkathons in the world.

“This day [World Cancer Day] is all about taking action and stressing the importance of doing daily self-inspection and annual mammograms. “We solemnly commemorate this day by remembering those who have passed on and reaffirm our commitment to continue to use every resource we have to overcome this pandemic,” said Mafahle Mareletse, Avon Justine managing director for Africa, Turkey and the Middle East.

The company encourages women to know their breasts and to be familiar with their bodies to help to detect any changes. And if they do notice a change, they must make sure they see a doctor.

“We encourage women to be vigilant, to educate themselves and for all of us to know what role we can play to support those infected and affected with breast cancer.”
