O Kae Molao operation in Alex nets 150

ALEXANDRA – Curfew breakers and mask rejecters nabbed in a weekend police operation.

Members of the South African Police Service in Gauteng have arrested more than 150 people in Alexandra under the operation O Kae Molao over the weekend of 16 January.

Acting Gauteng provincial police commissioner Major General Tommy Mthombeni led the multi-disciplinary O Kae Molao Operations in Alexandra, where more than 150 suspects were arrested for various crimes.

The suspects were arrested during roadblocks, tracing of wanted suspects as well as during stop-and-search activations in the township.

Some of the suspects were arrested for breaking Covid-19 curfew restrictions and others for refusing to wear their masks in public when ordered to do so as per the requirement of the National Disaster Management Act.

Mthombeni said police management in the province were concerned about people who undermine the lockdown regulations and continue to contravene the National Disaster Management Act.

“Operations to enforce the regulations will be intensified in the province as long as the people fail to adhere to the regulations and heed government calls to wear masks in public,” said Mthombeni.

The arrested suspects appeared at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court in Wynberg on 18 January while some were released on warnings and admission of guilty fines.
