Alex police to host gender-based violence awareness event

ALEXANDRA – Residents are encouraged to attend the event at Alex Plaza on 4 December.


To commemorate the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children, Alex Police Station will host gender-based violence (GBV) awareness event at Alex Plaza on 4 December.

Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, the spokesperson for Alex police said,” The event aims to reduce the scourge of GBV in Alexandra by also raising awareness on substance abuse, as it is the root cause of the escalated domestic violence crime in Alexandra.

“The purpose is to create awareness of GBV and the community to be aware of the recourse available to them. We also want to inform the community about their right to report cases on GBV,” he said.

“We, as the police see GBV in a serious light and we can assure you that offenders of GBV are to be arrested and taken to court.”
