Security officer shot and killed in Alex

ALEXANDRA – The imposter shot two security officers, one died on the scene and the other was taken to hospital.

A security officer was shot dead by an imposter who pretended he was a staff member at a security company in Wynberg, on 27 October at about 10.30am.

According to Alexandra Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, the suspect went to the company’s head office on the pretence that he worked there. He was identified as an imposter when staff asked him where he got a company T-shirt he was wearing, and he ran away.

“The reaction vehicle chased him until 1st Avenue in Alexandra where the suspect entered the houses and two officers followed on foot,” said Mbatha. “When the suspect was cornered, he produced a firearm and shot one security officer in the chest and he died on the scene and he shot another officer in the stomach and he was taken to hospital.”

According to Mbatha, the suspect got into one of the houses and held a 4-year-old as a human shield. They then used teargas on the suspect and arrested him. The child was unharmed.

Two firearms and ammunition were recovered, a case of murder and attempted murder was opened for investigation.
