The family of an 18-year-old East Bank High School learner Jabulile Nkosi, who was found dead a stone’s throw away from a notorious Jukskei River bridge on Vasco Da Gama Street in Alexandra has urged community members to allow justice to take its cause.

Nkosi’s body was found lying along the road after she was last seen taking a local taxi on 6 September 2020.
Speaking during the memorial service held at Altrec Sports Complex on 10 September, Nkosi’s uncle Job Motaung urged residents and community members of Alexandra who came in numbers to bid her farewell to remain calm and allow the police to do their job.
“My niece was a very peaceful and loving person. She was a devoted Christian and I believe in justice and I am certain that she would have loved to see justice taking its cause. We know and we understand the pain you are feeling at the moment but we urge you to remain calm and allow law enforcement to do its job,” Motaung said.
Her Grade 11 class teacher, William Mongalo said the school and community of Alexandra have lost a great young leader who had a bright future.
“Jabulile was a loving, bubbly and a peacemaker in and outside of the classroom. We had a good teacher-and-learner relationship when I was her class teacher in Grade 11. She loved laughing out loud and socialising with other learners. Our school and community of Alexandra have lost a genuine loving soul and future leader,” Mongalo said.
On the same day, Congress of South African Students (Cosas) held another memorial service in Sankopano Community Hall that was attended by learners from all local high schools.
Mpumelelo Maringa, zonal secretary of Cosas said they will organise a mass protest campaign to demand justice for Nkosi.
“We are calling on the police to work day and night to arrest all criminals, especially those who commit gender-based violence in our community. We will not rest until the killers are found and put behind bars.”
Nkosi was laid to rest at Waterfall Cemetery on 12 September after a funeral service that was held at home, in Tsutsumani.
