UPDATE: Power fully restored in Vasco da Gama

ALEXANDRA – City Power has announced that they have fully restored power at the Vasco da Gama switching substation on 21 August.

City Power has completed the settings on all the feeders at Vasco da Gama switching substation and has restored power to residents of Alexandra.

City Power said in a statement on 17 August that power should be restored by 19 August if everything goes to plan. Unfortunately, City Power did experience a delay. “Eskom has requested emergency isolation on Malboro Substation to conduct maintenance after detecting carbon on the panels,” said City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena in a statement on 20 August. “Vasco da Gama switching substation is fed from Eskom Malboro substation, and that is why this affects our planned restoration.”

Almost half of the residents that were affected by the outage were restored by early Thursday (20 August)]. City Power announced today (21 August) that power is officially restored.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” concluded Mangena.
