Woman reports to police that she was raped in her sleep

Alexandra Police Station is investigating a report of rape on 14 July in Alexandra.

According to the station’s spokesperson, Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, the complainant, a 34-year-old woman, reported that she was sleeping alone in her room but woke up when she felt something penetrating her. “She was surprised to see her male neighbour who inserted his finger in her vagina. She asked him what he was doing and the neighbour simply said he thought it was his girlfriend who is known to the complainant,” explained Mbatha.

Mbatha said that the complainant does not know how the male neighbour gained entry into her room. “The suspect is known to the complainant but not yet arrested, the docket is still to be referred to family violence, child protection and sexual offence unit,” said Mbatha.

A rape case has been opened for further investigation.
