Man hijacked while delivering grocery stock

ALEXANDRA – The driver sustained injuries after jumping out of the back of the vehicle while it was in motion.

Police are investigating a hijacking that took place on 15 July near 21 Avenue and London Road at 12pm.

Spokesperson for Alexandra Police Station, Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, said that the complainant, a 28-year-old delivery driver, reported that he was confronted by three unknown males while he was driving a company vehicle, a white Hyundai H100 truck.

According to Mbatha, the complainant said one of the men pointed a firearm at him and ordered him to climb into the back of the truck. The suspects then drove away with the complainant in the back. “The canopy door opened while the truck was in motion and he managed to escape seeking help.

“The driver sustained injuries after jumping while the vehicle was in motion.”

Mbatha said that the total value of the stolen goods amounted to R170 700. “The suspects fled the scene with the vehicle valued at about R92 000, grocery stock valued at about R22 000, cash amounting to R54 000, a Samsung cell phone valued at about R2 700.”

He added that the vehicle does not have a tracking system and has not been recovered so far.

All suspects are unknown and still at large.
