Alex’s ‘entrepreneurial lionesses’ urged to pitch their business for cash injection

ALEX – Volkswagen is looking for 'entrepreneurial lionesses' to pitch their businesses and share in a capital injection of R175 000.

Alexandra’s own ‘entrepreneurial lionesses’ who are part of the Lionesses of Africa network have been called upon to take advantage of an opportunity to land themselves a cash injection to boost their fledgeling businesses.

Volkswagen and the Lionesses of Africa are on the hunt for three winning business pitches to win R175 000 to support their businesses.

All it will take to share in the Volkswagen’s Lionesses Den fund is for prospective entrants to ensure they are registered members of the Lionesses of Africa network and then share a two-minute pitch on their lioness-hearted businesses. The top three pitches will win capital to invest in their businesses and in turn help drive the South African economy forward on its recovery journey post the Covid-19 global pandemic.

This offers an opportunity for female entrepreneurs to access capital amid the COVID-19 challenges in the South African economy, small businesses in particular, said Martina Biene, head of the Volkswagen brand in South Africa.

Volkswagen believes the only way to fast-track South Africa’s economic recovery is through aligning with the lionesses of the country who are lagging behind when it comes to support for their entrepreneurial skills.

“A lot still needs to be done to support female entrepreneurs to continue their role in helping to alleviate unemployment, poverty and drive the economy forward,” Biene added.

The Volkswagen’s Lionesses Den fund is a chance for female entrepreneurs to use the capital to pay salaries, upskill, purchase stock, invest in marketing and or proper infrastructure, she said.

Female entrepreneurs who are part of the Lionesses of Africa network from across all sectors and industries can enter the competition by submitting their two-minute recorded video on their business pitch on the Lionesses Den website www.vwlionessesden.co.za

The competition runs from 1 July to 2 August and selected winners will be announced on 21 August during the Lionesses Lean-In event.Details: visit www.lionessesofafrica.com; www.vwlionessesden.co.za
