Brace for another day of Stage 2 load-shedding

Eskom further urged the public to reduce their electricity usage in a bid to limit the impact of load-shedding.

Eskom has announced load-shedding will resume at Stage 2 at 9am this morning, 11 July, and is set to continue until 10pm.

The power utility implemented Stage 2 load-shedding yesterday, 10 July, due to the increase in generation unit breakdowns. Loadshedding was temporarily suspended at 10pm last night, 10 July.

In a statement released last night, Eskom said, “Even though some of the units are expected back in service tonight, continuing with load-shedding tomorrow is necessary in order to replenish the emergency generation reserves to better prepare for the coming week. Due to the much colder weather, demand for electricity has also risen significantly.

“Three of the six-generation units contributing to the earlier breakdowns have been successfully returned to service at the Tutuka, Arnot and Matimba power stations. This has had a net effect of reducing the plant breakdowns to 2 350MW of capacity, with breakdowns occurring at the Arnot, Kendal, Tutuka and Majuba power stations. The delayed return to service of a generation unit at the Duvha power station has also added significant pressure to the generation system.”

Eskom further urged the public to reduce their electricity usage in a bid to limit the impact of load-shedding.

“With your help, Eskom can again recover from this much quicker,” read the statement.
