Woman who left handbag in taxi appeals to community for help

ALEXANDRA – The handbag had valuables including her bank card and daughter's clothes.

A woman is appealing to the community of Alexandra to help her in locating a handbag she left in an Avanza motor vehicle that was transporting her from Last Gate to Ext 9 in Alexandra.

Reshoketswe Riba (28) said that she left her brown handbag in the driver’s car as she was getting out on Saturday, 13 June (around 5.30 pm). She has since gone to the Alexandra Taxi Association (ATA) and the Alexandra, Randburg, Midrand and Sandton Taxi Association (Armsta) but she was told that the driver had not dropped off her bag.

“The handbag had my daughter’s newly bought stockings and a purse which had all my bank cards,” said Riba.

“I would like to ask the driver to please drop off my bag as I have important things in that bag. If we as customers forget our belongings in one of the taxis, the driver has a duty to drop off the things at the nearest Armsta or ATA office. I am also appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard anything about my handbag to please come forward or call 076 701 3725.”

The Alexandra Taxi Association was contacted for comment with no success. Armsta public relations officer Motlanalo Tsebe said that the complainant needs to have the registration number of the specific vehicle and approach them for further assistance.

“We have over 1 200 vehicles that operate in Alexandra and without a registration number, we cannot do anything. That’s why it is important for commuters to always check the car registration numbers of every car they get into, in case something like this happens again,” explained Tsebe.

Anyone who has information that will help locate the missing handbag is urged to contact 076 701 3725.
