Deputy Minister joins Huawei Covid-19 food relief

ALEX – Deputy Minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu joins Huawei Alex's Covid-19 food.

Huawei Technologies, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, partnered with Social Development Deputy Minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu and NGO Afrika Tikkun to provide food relief to Alex families.

Huawei has an ongoing partnership with Afrika Tikkun and is supporting the Neighbour to Neighbour Support Programme which aims to supply food and essentials to families in Johannesburg townships during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Bogopane-Zulu described the initiative as important in Alexandra as the numbers of the hungry were continually going up while the living conditions weren’t the best and people were congested. “We need to make sure that within these living conditions people are wearing their masks and understand the virus, so they can do their bit in curbing the spread of the virus.

“Huawei is one if the partners we partner with as the department, today they have made this food distribution possible to the majority of families which are child headed. We always appreciate the work that we do with them,” she said.

“Supplying food and essentials to the most vulnerable in our communities is not a sustainable solution, but it is absolutely crucial right now as we all navigate an uncertain future.

“We have gained enormous support from partnerships such as Huawei Technologies and Social Development to kick-start the programme, but with possible lockdown extensions still in play, we need all the help we can get to continue this beneficial work,” said Afrika Tikkun deputy CEO, Alef Meulenberg.

“This is a time for unity, and a time to look out for each other. We understand that it is a very difficult time for everybody, especially those who are affected by unemployment. We appreciate the opportunity to make a small contribution to help alleviate the strain of lockdown,” said Huawei deputy CEO, Kian Chen.
