Covid-19: Lend a hand to Door of Hope Children’s Mission

The Door of Hope Children's Mission is in need of formula, nappies and winter pyjamas.

The Door of Hope Children’s Mission, based in Glenvista, Johannesburg, recently welcomed their seventh baby since the lockdown started on 27 March.

The baby was sadly found on the side of the road and will now be taken care of by the home. There are now 71 babies being cared for by the home.

Nadene Grabham, the operations director for the home, said that the number of babies taken in during the lockdown period isn’t necessarily higher due to the lockdown. She highlighted that they will only begin to see if the lockdown is having an impact on the number of babies who are abandoned as the lockdown continues.

Grabham said that one of the significant challenges has been that they have not been able to re-unify babies or place them with adoptive families during the lockdown. This is a struggle as many of the homes are already full, while still taking in babies to care for.

Worldwide travel restrictions also meant that babies who have been adopted by families abroad are unable to travel.

Grabham highlighted that monetary donations are always welcome, alternatively, people are welcome to place an online order to have items delivered.

Some of their key needs at present include day-to-day items such as formula, nappies, cleaning products and winter pyjamas.

Donations can be made here or can be dropped off at 15 Barbara Avenue, Glenvista.
