ALEXANDRA – Sports gambling company Betway donates R2 million towards the fight against Covid-19.

Jewish charity organisation Afrika Tikkun which runs several projects in Alexandra will be of one of the beneficiaries of a R2-million donation from sports betting company, Betway SA to fight Covid-19.

In a statement to announce the donation, Betway, which also sponsors the annual Maimane Alfred Phiri Games (Map Games), said the Covid-19 pandemic was having a massive impact on the lives of communities in which it operated and hence the desire to alleviate the suffering being endured by those communities.

Betway will donate a portion of the R2-million to Afrika Tikkun and 17 other charitable institutions in the City of Gold. Besides the Alex projects,

Tikkun runs its other charity work projects in Braamfontein, Diepsloot, Orange Farm and in Emfuleni in the Cape Flats.

“In solidarity with the communities, Betway has committed to contributing R2 million across a number of different charitable organisations to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic and its related challenges.”

The sports betting company said the donation would be used to support national food relief efforts and the delivery of vital supplies that may be needed by these organisations to continue to function normally while managing the impact of the outbreak.

“We would also like to take this time to mention that with restrictions on work and travel, many of us are spending more time at home. However, extra time shouldn’t mean extra spend. Please gamble responsibly and get in touch with our support centre if you have any concerns.”
