Family victim of robbery during lockdown

ALEXANDRA – Police urge for vigilance during lockdown after family's robbery

An armed suspect wearing a medical mask allegedly robbed a mother and daughter of personal and household items worth more than R8 000 at their 9th Avenue home in the early morning of 26 March.

Alexandra Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha said the suspect woke them up at gunpoint and ordered them to comply as he demanded money and cell phones. Mbatha said the suspect took the victims’ cellphones worth R4 120 and a television set worth R4 000 and vanished.

Mbatha urged residents not to relax their security despite the lockdown as criminals were always on the lookout for potential victims. “Report the incident soon after they occur to assist the police to mount a quick investigation.”
