Operation Stay Home calls on members of the community in Alexandra to stay home and adhere to lockdown rules

ALEXANDRA – Our aim is to assist the government and law enforcement officials during this lockdown, Sikhitla said.

A newly formed community-based organisation, Operation Stay Home has urged people of Alexandra and surrounding areas to comply with measures put in place to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Operation Stay Home was formed by a group of concerned community members and community leaders to encourage residents of Alexandra to follow the rules of the lockdown put in place to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Organisation coordinator, Simon Sikhitla said they were working with the police and the army to encourage members of the community to stay home during the lockdown period announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

“Our aim is to assist the government and law enforcement officials during this lockdown. Covid-19 is affecting all of us and we realised that some of our people don’t understand the purpose of the lockdown. We then took our time to hit the streets of Alexandra to educate people,” he said.

“We are working closely with the South African Police Service and members of the South African Defence Force and other community-based organisations. Our councillors and the leadership of Alex Shutdown Movement have also come on board to help us spread the message.”

Sikhitla has called upon members of the community and all residents of Alexandra to remain indoors and only go out for important and essential needs.
