Alexandra community broadcaster introduces strict measures to fight the spread of coronavirus

ALEXANDRA – The station manager said the decision was taken to protect staff members at the station, prevent the spread of the deadly virus and to heed the call by the head p0-resident.

Following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement of the national 21-days lockdown due to the outbreak of Covid-19, Alex FM has announced strict measures and operational changes at the community broadcaster.

Alex FM radio station manager Takalane Nemangowe said the community broadcaster will no longer conduct face-to-face interviews at the studio until the coronavirus cloud has passed.

He said the decision was taken to protect staff members at the station, prevent the spread of the deadly virus and to heed the call by the head of state, president Ramaphosa. “To this end, Alex FM will implement extraordinary measures to ensure a positive contribution to the clarion call by President Cyril Ramaphosa. We have cancelled all in-studio interviews and we will encourage interviews to be done over the phone. Certain shows including sports shows and kiddies shows have been suspended until further notice,” he said.

Nemangowe added that all non-essential staff members including volunteers and interns have been requested to stay at home. “Every person entering Alex FM premises for extremely necessary business will be forced to be sanitised by our security personnel at the entrance. Alex FM will continue to play its important role in the community and we appeal to members of the community to remain calm and heed the call to stay home during these 21 days of battle against coronavirus.”
