Alexandra businessman Mandla Ngcobo remain optimistic amid Covid-19 outbreak

ALEXANDRA – Mandla Ngcobo, owner of Kusekhaya Café on 3rd Avenue says business has gone down since the outbreak of Covid-19.

Small business owners in Alexandra have put in place preventive measures to fight the spread of the coronavirus with the little resources they have at their disposal.

Mandla Ngcobo, the owner of Kusekhaya Café and spaza shop on 3rd Avenue, said business had gone down since the Covid-19 outbreak.

“We are doing all we can to ensures that we sanitise and educate our customers about coronavirus,” he said. “We had to also buy things like gloves and masks used by our eight staff members daily to comply with the health requirements during this difficult time.

“This means we have to spend more from the little we have and this will have negative effects on the business.”

Ngcobo said the 21-day lockdown announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa added salt to the wound since many people decided to leave the township.

“Many people have decided to visit their families in other places during the 21-day lockdown. This will also have a bad effect on the business because these people are our loyal customers.

“We hope that our government and global health organisations will soon find solution to this problem that has claimed thousands of lives around the world.”
