#DataIsFalling Competition Commisson announces Vodacom will reduce data prices by 30 per cent

JOBURG – Some Twitter users were happy with the announcement well others thought the price cut isn't enough.

Spokesperson for the Competition Commission South Africa, Thembinkosi Bonakele said they have reached a significant agreement with Vodacom to reduce their monthly data prices by 30 per cent from 1 April 2020.

Bonakele said their agreement still needs to be confirmed by the Competition Tribunal and that certain details of the agreement are confidential to protect competition in the market.

The statement read, “Vodacom has agreed to a multi-year substantial reduction of monthly data bundles across the board. For example, the key 1 gigabyte (GB) monthly data bundle will drop from R149 per 1 GB to no more than R99 (including VAT). This represents a 34 per cent price decrease.”

Some Twitter users were happy with the announcement, even considering leaving their current network provider, well others said 30 per cent is not enough.
