Senior citizens at Alexandra Hospice get an opportunity to visit their youth days

ALEXANDRA – The 73-year-old Priscilla Malope recalled the days of her youth when she couldn't skip a day without ensuring that her hairstyle was always intact.

The month of February in almost every part of the world is known as the Month of Love.

In their efforts to show their love for the elders who live in the local hospice, the Alexandra Hospice and Johannesburg Beauty Hub Academy staff members gave their special gifts to the elders and patients living in the hospice. The beauty academy offered its services of hairstyling, manicure and pedicure to senior citizens living at the facility.

Elders could not hide their excitement as professional beauty specialists did what they do best and described it as a true gesture of love and care.

Priscilla Malope (73) recalled her youth days when she couldn’t skip a day without ensuring that her hairstyle was always intact. “I am so happy that today our children came to remind us that we are not forgotten. Having someone who shows me this kind of love gives me hope with the future of our country. I am happy and looking forward to the young Priscilla after they finish pampering me,” Malope said.

Programme supervisor at Beauty Hub Academy Phindile Msapa said everyone likes to look good and they took it upon themselves to ensure that senior citizens also get an opportunity to change their looks every month. “We want them to look like kings and queens of Alex. They deserve to be pampered like every man and woman. We do this not only because we have an agreement with social development but it’s one of our values as a business to give back to the community. We offered our first class services to all the senior citizens of this facility free of charge. We provided massage, manicure, pedicure and we did their hair according to what they want,” Msapa said.

Grace Marutlulle thanked Beauty Hub Academy for their generous gift and urged other companies to follow suit and give back to the community. “Business and corporate community must extend a helping hand to organisations like ours. We rely on them because they have financial muscle to do social corporate initiatives of this nature. Our facility needs different kinds of help but companies are not keen to help. We urge them to come on board in helping us look after our elders and patients,” she said.
