#AlexTotalshutdown Movement has nothing to do with a possible stay away

ALEXANDRA – The audio suggested that people from different townships including some from Alexandra met in Soweto where attendants agreed to embark on a shutdown in their respective townships.

Following an audio that was recently circulated on social media platforms about a possible shutdown of Alexandra and other townships around Johannesburg, the #AlexandraShutdownMovement has distanced itself from the message.

The audio suggested that people from different townships including some from Alexandra met in Soweto where attendants agreed to embark on a shutdown in their respective townships.

The audio message appealed to businesses and residents from different townships around Johannesburg not to go to work or open for business on 25 and 26 February because of a violent shutdown that will take place.

The movement which organised a two-week shutdown in Alexandra last year said it had nothing to do with a possible shutdown.

The spokesperson of #AlexTotalshutdown Movement Thandiwe Mthombeni said, “As #AlexTotalshutdown Movement stakeholders, we are not aware of any planned stay away from taking place in Alexandra. The message circulated on social media suggesting otherwise has nothing to do with the movement. There is no possible or planned shutdown by our movement in Alexandra.”
