Even though Eskom announced that it will not be implementing rotational load-shedding today (27 February), customers are reminded that load-shedding may be implemented at short notice.
“We are utilising emergency reserves to supplement supply as some generation units have been taken out for emergency repairs. As such, the system remains constrained, vulnerable and unpredictable. We request customers to continue using electricity sparingly to help curb demand,” said the power utility.
Eskom said unplanned outages or breakdowns were at 11 190MW as at 7.05am this morning while planned maintenance is 4 417MW.
The power utility requested customers to continue using electricity sparingly so that electricity demand can be reduced. This can be done by doing the following:
- Set air-conditioners’ average temperature at 23ºC
- Switch off your geysers over peak periods
- Use the cold water tap rather than using the geyser every time
- Set your swimming pool pump cycle to run twice a day, three hours at a time
- At the end of the day, turn off computers, copiers, printers and fax machines at the switch.
“We appeal to customers to revisit their load-shedding schedules on the Eskom or local municipal websites, depending on their electricity supplier, to review amendments.”
