Burglary at charity organisation

ALEXANDRA – Look out for charity organisation stolen cooking equipment.

A charity organisation was dealt a draw-back by a burglary which occurred over the weekend.

Tenth Avenue-based NPO Blessed is the Hand that Gives, which support township children with after-school homework and feeding scheme and also ex-offenders through a rehab programme, lost a four-plate gas stove, 9kg gas cylinder and 20-litre urn in the burglary. “The items are essential for food preparation for the children who are poor and have nothing to eat at home,” NPO manager Philemon Matume said.

He appealed for help from those with knowledge of any suspicious persons seen at the premises on Friday night or, alternatively, to approach the police. They have to scrounge around for a replacement stove to ensure the children are fed when they attend the after- school study supervision. The break-in was through the kitchen door and discovered by Matume who found the door slightly open on Saturday morning.
