City Power has confirmed that the power outage that is currently being experienced by the community of Alexandra is an emergency shutdown of the Vasco Da Gama substation in Alexandra.
City Power said this was because of maintenance they were currently doing on the network. “The shutdown is to enable technicians to repair a damaged cable in the area,” it said.
“The maintenance started at 10am and we are hoping to restore power by 2.30pm should everything go according to plan”
The areas that are affected by this include homes on 2nd to 16th avenues between Florence Mphosho Street and Richard Baloyi street.
