Vincent Tshabalala Education Trust awards 50 bursaries to Alexandra top matric performers

ALEXANDRA – More than 50 matric learners from five high schools in Alexandra received full bursaries to study at any tertiary institution of their choice to further their studies.


The Vincent Tshabalala Education Trust recently hosted a ceremony at Sankopano Community Centre to award bursaries to learners who completed matric last year.

The Trust which was established in 2004 to help learners from Alexandra further their studies at tertiary level.

More than 50 matrics of five high schools in Alexandra received bursaries to study at any tertiary institution of their choice, while the top three schools were awarded cash prizes to be used to improve their institutions.

Addressing the learners and teachers, the chairperson of the Trust, Paul Mashatile said, “To date, the Vincent Tshabalala Education Trust has awarded a total of 316 bursaries and 121 of our beneficiaries are now graduates. A total of 320 Grade 10, 11 and 12 learners were awarded prizes to encourage and motivate them to stay in school. We have invested in improving school infrastructure in all the high schools in Alex in line with the needs determined by the schools themselves.

“In the next coming five years, we will be investing in unearthing and strengthening the leadership capabilities of our learners, to raise their level of consciousness about themselves. We will build a leadership school that will produce leaders for our society. We have assigned Mr Thebe Morake, a seasoned educator and former deputy principal to lead our Leadership Development Programme.”

KwaBhekilanga Secondary School won the overall performance award and bagged R120 000.

Top three performing schools were:

KwaBhekilanga Secondary School R120 000

Alex High School R90 000

Realogile High School R70 000.
