DJ’s Anti-Depression awareness campaign aimed at encouraging those who suffer from depression
RIVER PARK– Fikile Mathebula famously known as DJ Lola from River Park said she suffered depression when she was in high school and almost committed suicide due to peer pressure.
Following her struggles with depression two years ago, 20-year-old local DJ Fikile Mathebula is on a mission to help youngsters from different high schools in Region E overcome this debilitating disorder.

Mathebula said her anti-depression awareness campaign she’s planning to embark on is aimed at helping learners, especially those in high schools, to know that there is a way out of depression if someone asks for help at an early stage.
“I want to help those who find themselves battling with depression due to the different challenges they face in life. Many youngsters are afraid to shout for help, thinking that they will be judged and some of them end up committing suicide. I say this because I went through it and it never stopped until I spoke out about it,” she said.
Mathebula added that the awareness campaign would comprise qualified counsellors who will offer professional help to learners and even teachers.
“Depression is a very dangerous disease that many people take lightly. It kills and most people are ignorant to the fact that it is the reason behind many suicide cases we read and hear about in the news. I hope that this little offering to our community will save many lives.”
The campaign road show will start in February. Campaign dates for different schools will be published on her Facebook and Instagram pages at Yourguurl dj lola.
