Derogatory remarks lead to murder

ALEXANDRA – Siblings in murder case out on bail.

Two siblings granted bail for murder in Alexandra will reappear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 10 February.

The accused from Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal and residing in Rosettenville and Wynberg are alleged to have murdered the victim at his 1st Avenue home at about 11.30pm on 10 November. This after the 32-year-old sibling called the younger, 26-year-old brother who is alleged to have pulled the trigger.

The incident occurred a day after the older brother had an altercation at about 9.30pm with the deceased and two others he found drinking alcohol. He asked for beer and they gave him some.

Later, he allegedly passed a derogatory remark on one in the trio saying his dark complexion resembled a Shangaan-speaking person. In response, the ‘mocked’ victim said that it wasn’t of his making but that he was proud of it. This resulted in the fight which the other two stopped.

The accused then left after allegedly telling the one he fought with that his family should prepare him a casket.

The next day the trio was approached by the accused at the same spot at night. After telling them that he had called a trustworthy person to come to deal with them, the younger brother turned up, produced a gun and fired indiscriminately, forcing them to scatter.

This was after asking for the address of the deceased. He followed him to the home where he shot him and then left. The friends took the injured victim to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital where he later died. The siblings were traced and arrested.
