About 1 200 underprivileged learners set to benefit from Tomorrow Trust’s Saturday classes

HOUGHTON – Tomorrow Trust provides academic classes to learners from Grade R all the way to Grade 12.

About 200 learners from Alexandra will join their more than 1 200 counterparts from Diepsloot, Soweto and Thembisa for Saturday school classes at various schools around Johannesburg in a bid to improve their school marks.

This is thanks to Tomorrow Trust.

The learners, mostly from formerly disadvantaged communities in the city, will attend extra classes on Saturdays organised by Tomorrow Trust at King Edward School in Upper Houghton, Maryvale College in Orchards, and Redhill College and Crawford College in Sandton.

Taryn Rae, Tomorrow Trust’s business development manager, said they had partnered with the various schools in a bid to make a sustainable difference in the learners’ quality of education. She added that they take into account the learners’ performance, attitude and background.

“We recruit highly qualified and passionate teachers who come and teach the learners each Saturday and holiday period. Tomorrow Trust provides academic classes to learners from Grade R all the way to Grade 12 with a focus on building English, mathematics and physical sciences,” Rae said.

“Tomorrow Trust partners with the Department of Social Development to assist with referrals. We also recruit specific teachers who are passionate about change.”

Tomorrow Trust provides a comprehensive programme that includes transport to and from the communities to the host venues, added Rae.

She said the programme had been a success, revealing that their recent group of Grade 12 learners achieved a 100 per cent pass rate of which 80 per cent achieved a bachelor’s degree pass.

Tomorrow Trust is a non-government organisation and is highly reliant on funding.
