Gresswold’s HP Stars FC launches street soccer

GRESSWOLD – HP Stars FC hopes to branch to street soccer soon.

The Gresswold-based HP Stars FC, which plies its trade in the Alex Northrand LFA, intends to form a soccer team this year that will participate in the street soccer league.

As part of this mission, Stars founder Prince Hitlers Ndlovu said the club would host street soccer trials on 19 January at Gressworld Park Stadium which is behind the Balfour Park Mall.

“Over the past four years, I have noticed that there’s a lot of talented boys and youthful men who play street soccer and they enjoy it,” he said. “In one of my encounters with one of the champions of street soccer at Gresswold Park, who goes by the name of Tokyo, I was fascinated by the game and inspired to form a club. I got to learn that there were many street soccer clubs, not just in South Africa, but all over the world. After our trials, we will focus on the street soccer league and the street soccer world cup challenge where 16 teams will go head to head at Gresswold Park on 11 April.”

All players chosen on the day would receive a one-year contract and would compete in high-level leagues and tournaments, Ndlovu added.

The street soccer trials will be held from 10am to 5pm on 19 January, with registration starting at 9am. The club is looking for 10 players and two goalkeepers from the ages of 19 up to 25.

All players must bring their own playing shoes and a soccer jersey to participate and no soccer boots will be allowed.
