School dropout question answered

ALEXANDRA – 2019 matrics reap what they sowed.

Anxiety turned into joy and excitement or, forlorn faces as the matric Class of 2019 in Alexandra collected their results.

The beaming faces saw a bright future from their performance while the sad ones seemed grief-stricken and fearful of what the future holds for them.

They appeared in thought of what they would say to their families. Overall, it was a moment for them to reckon the proverbial, reaping what you sowed the entire year.

As the norm in the past several years, the pecking order in performance among the local five secondary schools didn’t change drastically. Perennial leader Kwa Bhekilanga Secondary School came out tops again followed by Alexandra High School which toppled Realogile to the third position with Minerva Secondary coming fourth and, East Bank High anchoring the bottom.

They contributed to Gauteng provincial schools’ 87. 2 per cent pass mark, after the Free State which attained 88.4 per cent. The descending order is North West 86.8 per cent, Western Cape 82.3 per cent, KwaZulu-Natal 81.3 per cent, Mpumalanga 80.3 per cent, Eastern Cape 76.5 per cent, Northern Cape 76.5 per cent and laggards Limpopo with 72.3 per cent.

The results also answered the vexing question of school dropouts with MEC Panyaza Lesufi stating that the Class of 2019 proved that 77 per cent of learners registered for school in 2008 in the province completed their matric education.
