Copper wire thief caught red-handed

ALEXANDRA – Copper thief kicks off his five-year sentence

A Marlboro man was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for tampering with essential services.

Accused Rony Mabidilala (32) was caught in possession of reams of copper wire dug up from City Power supply cables in the Marlboro area.

He was spotted digging with two others who fled, and he was apprehended on Marlboro Drive-by patrolling security officers at night on 19 November.

He was detained at Bramley Police Station before sentencing where his plea for leniency that it was his first offence didn’t help him.
