Girls dominate Iphutheng Primary School 2019 academic and sports awards

ALEXANDRA – School principal Kgamaka Thobejane congratulated recipients of different awards and appealed to parents to continue supporting their children.


The hardworking learners from Iphutheng Primary School in both foundation and intermediate phase received were rewarded for their extra efforts.

The school hosted this year’s academic and sports awards to honour top achievers and hardworking learners at the school. Most of the top achievers in both academic and sports awards happened to be girls who repeatedly climbed the stage to collect multiple accolades.

School principal Kgamaka Thobejane congratulated the recipients and appealed to parents and the school governing body to continue supporting their children in today’s ever-changing world. “The world we are living in today is ever-changing with the Fourth Industrial Revolution in our yards. The success of a child in both academic life and sports do not only depend on educators. It is a joint responsibility of the teacher and parents. We must work together to prepare our children for these new trends in the workforce,” Thobejane said.

“As a school, we are committed to supporting your children in every way possible to ensure their competitiveness with other children. As parents, you must always check on your children’s schoolwork to ensure that they don’t skip lessons.”

Grade 7 top achiever Thato Lechaba was awarded the principal’s bursary to study at Curro Independent School next year. The principal’s bursary award goes to a learner who not only stood out in his or her academic work but also showed respect and helped others succeed.

Thato said hard work and attending extra classes helped her improved her marks in almost all subjects, “My parents were very instrumental in my academic success. They didn’t only ask me about my schoolwork, they were part of my daily journey and helped me with my homework. The support I received from extra classes completed the unfinished work and [led to] this award.”
