Police nab murder suspects

ALEXANDRA – Flying squad's joint ops nab female motorist murderers.


Four murder and hijacking suspects in Alexandra were among 20 others nabbed by the Johannesburg Flying Squad between 15 to 18 November for a range of crimes.

Spokesperson, Senior Personnel Officer Raymond Sambo, said the other crimes included assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, common robbery, business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and possession of drugs.

The four were nabbed at about midday on 15 November after the hijacking and murder of a female motorist. The woman, said to have been a paramedic was shot dead and robbed of her Kia motor vehicle at the intersection of Dublin and Cunning roads in Bramley. Acting on a tip-off, a joint operation between Crime Intelligence and Metro police saw the arrest of the four for the murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, together with three others for earlier business robberies.

A 9mm Norinco firearm which was positively linked to the murder and business robberies at Usave and Chicken Licken outlets in Alexandra was recovered from them. They were nabbed at a shebeen on 4th Avenue and await a court appearance.

The other 13 arrests included two for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, six for common robbery, three for transit robbery and two for the possession of drugs.

Also, five stolen and hijacked vehicles, a silver VW Polo, white VW Polo, white Toyota Tazz, white Opel Astra and a white Hyundai i10 were recovered.

Sambo thanked the community for assisting in the recovery of some of the vehicles.
